I remember being a little girl involved in cheerleading from about the age of five – you don’t really sweat that much when you’re little. Once I became a teenager, I stopped wearing colored shirts as the sweat was to embarrassing and it limited what I did. I stopped cheerleading altogether and stuck to wearing black and white shirts only because it disguised the sweat. I went to several doctors and was prescribed special deodorants only to have them stop working after a few weeks and sometimes even days.
My mom introduced me to Karen Minow-Tavary, a registered nurse who manages the High Desert Med Spa and Laser Center. She explained that in 2004 the US Drug Administration approved Botox injections to treat axillary hyperhidrosis (excessively sweaty armpits). I had no idea Botox could be used to relax the glans in my armpits and stop the excessive sweating.
Dr. Ann Watwood and Karen performed the procedure. I had minimal pain from the needle pokes, but no soreness after. In two days it was working!
I’m cheerleading again and color is back in my wardrobe. I understand the effect of the treatment will last about six months, however it’s worth it and I will definitely do this again. Why did I wait so long?!
