I’ve had two knee replacements and a knee revision so when I reinjured my shoulder saddling my horse I knew it was time for surgery. My primary care doctor referred me to an orthopedic surgeon in the Valley. I had my reservations after the initial meeting. The surgeon was more interested in telling me what he was going to do and that recovery would take six months to one year. He didn’t give me time to ask questions let alone state that I don’t have six months to a year to recover.
Around that same time, Wickenburg Community Hospital hired an orthopedic surgeon out of Scottsdale named Dr. Mitch Wagner. My initial thought was why would some hotshot orthopedic surgeon do business in Wickenburg? I was hesitant but considering my current choice, I thought I’d at least talk to Dr. Wagner before making a decision.
The initial meeting with Dr. Wagner was such a contrast from the first surgeon I met. Dr. Wagner answered every single question I had and addressed all my concerns. He was so comforting in his approach, I knew he would take good care of me.
Two weeks post-op I met with Dr. Wagner and he showed me before and after pictures he took of the inside of my shoulder with a scope. I was able to see all the damage in my shoulder – it was quite a mess in there. He then showed me pictures after surgery and it was like a work of art!
There are a lot of people living with aches and pains and if I didn’t like Dr. Wagner I wouldn’t be sharing my experience. Dr. Wagner is an excellent surgeon and he’s moved his practice to Wickenburg because he enjoys the personal interactions our community members want when seeking medical care. He could be practicing in the Valley but instead chooses to live and practice here. Thank you Dr. Wagner for an amazing shoulder, so thankful for orthopedic surgery close to home.
