Think BIG Wickenburg!

Wickenburg Community Hospital (WCH) offers the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) BIG program for the treatment of Parkinson’s symptoms.  In addition, the hospital has Parkinson’s diagnostic testing via a DaTscan. This tool is a specific type of single-photon emission computed tomography or (SPECT) imaging technique that helps visualize dopamine transport levels in the brain. This testing can assist the neurologist in making a definitive diagnosis. By using the synergy that is created by diagnostics and therapy, you can begin your Parkinson’s treatment faster.

Parkinson’s should be treated as early as possible, but it is never too late to improve your function.  LSVT BIG can help by increasing your walking speed with bigger steps, improve your balance, improve your movement in your torso and reduce your risk of falling.  The program consists of 16 individual 1-hour sessions, with your LSVT BIG certified occupational therapist.

Four consecutive days a week for four weeks.  You will be provided with daily homework to accelerate your progress and training in functional skilled activities that are personalized for you.

After your training sessions with a therapist, you will want to practice your LSVT BIG exercises several times per week.  You may want to return at some point back to therapy for a tune-up we’ll be here to help.

To see us contact your doctor and ask them to send a referral for OT (Occupational Therapy) for LSVT BIG.

Wishing you the best in health.
