Recently, Wickenburg Community Hospital achieved yet another milestone in its pursuit for Quality Medical Imaging services. As of July 14th, WCH is now accredited in Vascular Sonography through the American College of Radiology (ACR). This achievement is recognition of the high standards that are required to produce images and diagnose diseases of the vascular structures in the human body. Most sonography centers traditionally perform ultrasounds that focus on organs such as kidneys, livers, thyroids, ovaries and other structures. Specialized sonography of the veins and arteries require additional training and a new skill set to perform studies to identify diseases such as deep vein thrombosis, arteriosclerosis and aneurysms, just to name a few. Vessels that are imaged are: the arteries and veins in the arms and legs, carotid arteries in the neck, and the largest blood vessel in the body the aorta.
For Wickenburg this truly is a major accomplishment. According to the American College of Radiology’s website, Wickenburg Community Hospital is the first rural hospital in Arizona to achieve Accreditation in Vascular Sonography. Not only that, but our General and Gynecological Accreditation are still the only ones through the ACR found in Rural Arizona hospitals. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the dedicated staff at WCH. The sonographers under the direction of David Hall, who has close to three decades of experience, leads the sonography department whose goal is to make the patient experience the best it can be.
The Sonography Accreditations add to our current recognition in Computerized Tomography (CT) and Digital Mammography. In October of this year we anticipate obtaining our accreditation in Breast Sonography. This Accreditation will further enhance our Breast Center of Excellence designation as we become a full service Breast Imaging Center. Of course, none of this would be possible if it were not for what, many consider, the best Imaging Team. They each have passed advanced licensing exams in modalities from CT, MRI, Bone Densitometry, Mammography and Sonography. They are professionals that exhibit compassion and care for every patient they come in contact with. Wickenburg Community Hospital is truly fortunate to have such individuals taking care of the family and friends we call our neighbors. For more information please call 928-684-5421.
