Richard Melde, MD, MBA

Dr. Richard Melde grew up in SW Minnesota before moving to Scottsdale in Christmas of 1958.  He graduated from Scottsdale High School and went on to study pre-med at Occidental College in Los Angeles.

Dr. Melde returned to Arizona where he earned his medical degree in 1971 as one of the very first classes of 32 students at the University of Arizona School of Medicine in Tucson, Arizona.

He completed his internship and residency at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, AZ and went on to practice emergency medicine.  He was the Medical Director of the emergency department at Desert Samaritan Hospital for approximately 25 years and subsequently received an MBA degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and also attended the American College of Homeopathy in Phoenix as well.

He received a second license in the state of Arizona for homeopathic and integrated medicine, MD(H) in February 2008.

Dr. Melde is a first-generation medical doctor from a family of multi-level medical professionals and is the eldest of 9 children. He currently resides in Scottsdale, AZ with his wife. He has 5 daughters and 11 grandchildren.

Throughout all of Dr. Melde’s wide range work experience, he has loved small-town family medicine. My original idea was to be a family practice kind of doctor. I like knowing the people of a smaller community, getting to know the community and feels like he belongs more.

“When I was a child I knew I wanted to help people by either going into Ministry or Medicine. My father suggested medicine and I was honored to be one of the first set students to get accepted into U of A Collage of Medicine in Tucson, AZ when that program opened.”
