Amicia L Sapwell, BS, CPC (certified professional coder), CAH-CBS (critical access hospital coding and billing specialist); HIM Manager, Privacy & Compliance Officer at Wickenburg Community Hospital & Clinics (WCH) has recently been voted BEST BOSS, by The Wickenburg Sun Readers!
Amicia started her journey with WCH as an ER Tech in the WCH Emergency Department. While working in the ER, she went to college and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Legal Studies. The plan was to apply to law school but, with three little kids at home, it just was not the right time and she loved the organization so when the Chargemaster Analyst position in the Health Information Management (HIM) Department came open, she was happy to move to administration. After obtaining her coding credentials she was promoted to the HIM Manager where she continued her education and training specific to healthcare privacy and compliance to later become the organization’s Privacy and Compliance Officer in addition to HIM Manager.
“I have 14 employees who report to me and organizationally I oversee privacy and compliance for all employees.” Amicia says, “My favorite part about leading my team is encouraging them to grow personally and professionally while also meeting organizational goals.”
